TODAY’S INSPIRATION: HOW YOU SMELLING?

Our attitudes determines how we smell to God. Does your attitude give off the sweet  aroma of Christ? Are you self-centered, proud, or arrogant? Do your conversations constantly honor God, representing the Fruits of the Spirit, ejecting the fragrance of life. Or are your conversations laced with bitterness, resentment, anger, complaining, and gossip? Are those around you drawn to Christ as a result of the love and peace you display? Imagine what message it sends to our families, children, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, when they see us misrepresenting Christ. One moment praising Him and the next moment allowing things that are not of His character to come out of that same mouth. Our attitudes can deform the face of Christianity. Anytime negative thoughts creep into our minds, we must hold them captive before they come out of our mouth because life and death is in the power of the tounge. Through Jesus Christ we have the power to make our thoughts obedient to Christ, and to refuse to let stinking thinking like selfishness, envy, and anger control our minds.

“And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” (Ephesians 5:2)

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23)

” With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.” (James 3:9-10)

“The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”  (Proverbs 17:21)

“Take every thought captive to obey Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Everyone needs an attitude adjustment now and then. We are all a work in progress. I urge you to make a list of attitude adjustments you need to work on. When we do this we will be intentional to speak the best, not the worst, to speak of beauty and not the ugly and to praise and not curse. We want to smell good to God all the time, not just sometimes. However we cannot do it alone. We must spend time in the presence of Jesus, praying and asking Him to reveal the areas in our life that does not smell as they should. There is no improvement without change. We can begin by making a conscious choice to start each day with a positive attitude. 

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Phillipians 4:8-9)
